Re-Alignment, New Daemon, and More
posted @ 12:00 AM PST by smartssa

We're in the process of uprooting the network and upgrading our extremely stale servers to a fresh install of ratbox.

Services will be disrupted and you'll have to re-register your stuff, but since our userbase is small we don't really see this as a big issue. Right?

We're also ditching the region-based naming and just going with our fun and friendly hostnames. You'll find twofour.lazynet.org - orion.lazynet.org - durka.lazynet.org - ironhide.lazynet.org available for your ircing pleasure.

That's all for now.

Your friendly admin,

SmartSsa

Update!

But not really, bones was just bitching. Apparently he doesn't enjoy the site navigation around here!

Maybe one of these days I'll actually update something. We're slowly getting the ircd up to the newest versions, at least. Maybe services will be next ;)

DNS switch

When you can see this, the nameserver switch should be complete. Hopefully nothing breaks as a result. If so, message me or send me an email.

Admin Meeting
posted @ 12:00 AM PST by seymour
The Lazynet server admins recently had a meeting, and one of the topics was the website. So, as of now, it is partially using a new design - Gazetteer Alternate. Since the original page didn't have much on it, I haven't bothered to set up proper headers/footers and sidebar stuff. That'll come later. Also in the future might be a switch from bplog to WordPress for the news on the main page, as sparse as it is.

The server list will be updated soon, after the switch from the current host to Dreamhost.

krypton
posted @ 12:00 AM PST by seymour
Well, krypton has officially been retired as a Layznet server. It was one of the original servers, along with saigon. I guess that was around two years ago now. Back when the network existed pretty much for one channel and a couple dozen people. Now it's averaging 160-180 people daily, and a whole bunch of channels.

Reasons for no longer running krypton mostly have to do with not having a stable IP anymore. Too much of a pain in the ass to keep the ircd.conf updated on multiple servers.

On another note, News will be back hopefully soon, either running on my Linux box locally, or on saigon.

Huzzah. First Australian server, and an IPv6 one at that :) May be laggy at times.

Tydel's server was linked to Lazynet again, after being put on a better connection. It was finally added to the round-robin DNS tonight as well.

My server got linked in this morning. I just got hooked up with a 3Mbit DSL line with a static ip and no usage caps...I'm quite happy now:)

In other hardware related news, krypton has been having random issues over the last couple of weeks. Hardware is in transit, and the system will be replaced within the next couple of weeks.

PoC's (ipv4/ipv6) ircd will be down until further notice. Hardware issues on the box are causing random lockups.

Feel free to use another server.

That's all.

At the moment, darkstar is offline, and will be for at least a few more days. In the meantime, check out the server list to use a different server, or continue to use irc.lazynet.org to connect.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
